We’re 3 weeks into the season now and every squad has at least one victory and 11 of 12 also have a loss. We also have the 2nd straight week where a team knocked off the previous top team to take the league lead. It technically could happen again this week, but the Bandits would have to beat the Nagintas by 40, get 4 VP, Nagintas get 0 and then jump 3 other teams…so, unlikely. It was however a solid week for the Senor Crabs division as they rolled to a 4-0 record for the week, with the Boners and Chalupas picking their first wins on the season. The Boners also jumped up into a playoff position in the process. Overall, it was a solid scoring week with 6 teams going over 200 points and a couple more just missing.
Matchups
2-1 Rex in the City (225.22) – 1-2 Greg Schiano is an Idiot (213.79)
The Rexes were the top scoring team on the week, and they needed it to best the Idiots in this Week 3 tilt. The win puts them on top of the Taco Corp for the time being, thanks to 4 26-plus point performances. Ryan, Kamara, Nelson and Leonard all had great weeks and made up for stinkers from Moore, Engram, Miller, Lattimore and Skrine. That Engram injury could be real rough on the squad after already losing Hunter Henry for an extended period of time. The Idiots were pretty solid this week, but lousy games from Chris Thompson, Keenan Allen and Deone Buchannon who can’t stay healthy really cost them both in the game and in scoring VP.
2-1 Tom Selleck’s Moustache (217.29) – 1-2 What Does John Fox Say (198.85)
The Stache regain the top spot in the Yobagoya division after a solid victory against WDJFS who are coming around after a rough start. The Stache can pretty much thank Calvin Ridley for this one as his 37 points made up for a lot of poor defensive performances and earned him the new rookie WR single game record. It was a solid call by Smitty to get him in the line up – although his hand may have been forced by questionable tag on Marv Jones in the late game. WDJFS had a number of guys top 15 points and Carlos Hyde had a great game, but some awful performances on D were his undoing. Floyd, Carrie and A. Jackson combined for just over 5 points. Ouch.
1-2 Chalupa Batman (161.39) – 1-2 San Juan Bananas (149.27)
The Chalupas pull out their first victory of the season as the schedule luck reverses for them on a down week. The Chalupas only had 5 guys go over 10 points, 3 of which were on defense, but caught a break as the Bananas put up possibly their worst score all time. Not one of their pass catchers cracked double digits, which is surprising considering some of the guys they’re rolling out. Look for them to bounce back in an important match up against the Boners in Week 4. The Bananas are aging quickly on offense and it’s looking like they’re going to begin to sell off whatever they can to start the rebuild.
1-2 Fear Boners (216.40) – 1-2 Long Snappers (195.13)
The Boners also picked up their first victory and picked up max VP on the week to go from the bottom of the standings to a playoff spot in one week. They slapped the Snappers on the chin with a solid performance all over the field as 12 guys hit double digits, and Cam Newton having a great game. The Snappers weren’t terrible, but they weren’t great either but they’re hanging around and could make some noise in the division if they get some solid contributions from their youth as we get into Bye weeks. Russell Wilson getting back to his old self would really help them as well.
3-0 Deadly Nagintas (220.01) – 2-1 Knuckle Ballers (168.35)
The Nagintas sliced up the Ballers for a 50 point win in a statement game between undefeated teams. The victory puts the Nagintas on top of the standings as we head into another division round. Everyone of the Naginta offensive players put up 11 or more points except Corey Davis, who was a Ballers line up selection. The D was decent, but there is definitely some room for improvement. The Ballers got off to a slow start with their Jets on Thursday night and things didn’t get better as their usually solid Minnesota connection combined for just over 13 points after going for 60ish in Week 2. Barkley had another solid fantasy performance and is squarely in the debate for Rookie of the Year.
2-1 Loose Bandits (212.89) – 1-2 Endzone Dancers (123.59)
The Bandits rebounded in Week 4 taking the Dancers out at the knees (so pretty much chest height for Mo) in a 90ish point thrashing. Drew Brees had a monster game and Bob Woods was great as well as the Bandits offense outscored the entire Dancers team. Not much to say about the Dancers…I’m sure Adam Thielen is for sale. Oh, and they were outscored by their bench. Ouch.
Week 3 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Calvin Ridley (Tom Selleck’s Moustache) – Ridley was a beast on Sunday hauling in 7 of 8 for 146 and 3 TD, while also getting in a 9 yard carry.
Defensive Player of the Week
Darius Leonard (Rex in the City) – Leonard continues to be a monster, and he could have this ROTY and possibly DPOTY thing wrapped up by Week 9 at the rate he’s going.
Rookie of the Week
Calvin Ridley (Tom Selleck’s Moustache) – Leonard was awesome, but Ridley trumped him with his 3 TD day.
Goat of the Week
Deone Buchannon (Greg Schiano is an Idiot) – It’s tough to pick a goat from a squad that scores 214 points, but the donut really hurt in a 10 point game.
Bench Player of the Week
Mike Williams (Deadly Nagintas) – He was originally in the line up – Nagintas let Conrod pick their WR3 out of 3 options – he chose Davis. Was hoping whoever he picked would go off against him.
Bonehead Coaching Move of the Week
Rob Conrod (Deadly Nagintas) – Picked Corey Davis over Donte Moncrief for the Naginta line up.
