It’s hard to believe we’re now four seasons into this dynasty league. It was an interesting final week, as the playoff seeds weren’t actually set until a scoring revision shook things up on Thursday morning. It looked like we were going to have our fourth different #1 seed in four seasons until the Ballers/Bananas result was flipped and the Idiots ended up at the top of the regular season standings. I’m sure Dan is hoping things turn out a little better for him this time. The fact that he’s not a clear favourite and the Nagintas aren’t in the playoffs may help. All 6 squads in the playoffs have been there before, as the Dancers are the only squad left without a playoff appearance. The Stache are the only Igloo Bowl champion to be in the dance as they look to defend their 2016 title.
At the bottom of the standings, we have Dancers, Chalupas, Rexes and Ballers, trying to avoid being Frittata Bowl ‘winners’ and taking over the loser plate covers from Scotty. The Nagintas and the Snappers round out the consolation bracket, with the Nagintas attempting to keep their ‘playing in Week 16’ streak alive.
Playoff Preview
Wildcard Round
#3 What Does John Fox Say vs #6 Fear Boners
As we’ve come to expect from the Taco Corp, they only send one rep to the playoffs and this season, they’re the worst playoff team by pretty much any metric, but a division title gets them a 3 seed, which may help out the Boners. As such, the Boners are heavy favourites with MFL projecting them for a 25 point win. If you look at lineups and match ups, you can understand why. They have a slight advantage on offense, and a considerably better D. Having Martavis as the clear #2 WR this week due to the Juju suspension could be huge if the Ravens try to shut down AB. We at the league office are going with the Boners in an easy victory.
Prediction: Fear Boners
#4 San Juan Bananas vs #5 Tom Selleck’s Moustache
This one should be a little closer as these division foes face off for the 3rd time this season. San Juan won both earlier match ups by the slimmest of margins, but both of those included Gronk in the line up. His stupidity and the Week 13 scoring revision for the Ballers could very well be what eliminates the Bananas from the playoffs. They would have been sitting pretty with a bye week, but they do have some decent match ups and should make this another tight one. We think the Stache has the advantage, and as long as they don’t make any bad line up calls (I already have the bonehead and goat queued up if they lose), they should come out ahead.
Prediction: Tom Selleck’s Moustache
Semi-Finals
#6 Fear Boners vs #1 Greg Schiano is an Idiot
The Idiots have been tearing it up the past few weeks, being the high score in the league in 4 of the last 6 weeks. They went from the playoff bubble to the number one seed, and should roll to their first playoff victory, get Zeke back, and cruise to a title. That said, they’ve been in this position before, and fell short. A number of playoffs have been playing out of their minds in order to get them in this position. Will they be able to continue to do so, or will the bubble burst? We think they’re significantly better than the Boners, and should walk away with the win.
Prediction: Greg Schiano is an Idiot
#5 Tom Selleck’s Moustache vs #2 Loose Bandits
This is a rematch of the 2016 semi, which the Stache took down on their title run. The Bandits however were the better team in 2017, and knocked off the Stache just 3 weeks ago. The Bandits are very dependant on the trio of Julio, Brown and Bell, and how they perform will ultimately decide this match up. If it was this week, I’d like Smitty’s chances, but the Patriots won’t be able to shut down both Brown and Bell, so at least one of them will likely go off and it doesn’t get much easier for Julio. There’s also the Igloo Bowl appearance streak for the Senor Crabs, which the Bandits should extend.
Prediction: Loose Bandits
Finals
#2 Loose Bandits vs #1 Greg Schiano is an Idiot
Conrod went 0 for 2 on his finals-predicted teams, and I wouldn’t be overly upset if I was as well. Everyone likes an upset, but in my mind, these are the 2 teams in the playoffs with the potential to really go off. Unfortunately, our finals tend to be duds and over early. This one could be an exception to that with most of the major players having pretty solid Week 16 schedules. Mo has the more elite talent in my opinion, but Dan has the deeper team, especially getting Zeke back.
Prediction: Greg Schiano is an Idiot.
Year End Award Preview
As we near the end of the season, it’s time to start seriously thinking about award winners for this year. There have been numerous outstanding performers this year, but these few names stand out up to this point. With 3 weeks to go, anything can happen.
Offensive Player of the Year
Russell Wilson – Wilson is the top scoring player through the regular season to the tune of 3 points a game over the next QB. If he continues to put up points through the playoffs, he should get solid consideration even though it’s a 1 QB league.
Todd Gurley – Remember last year when everyone was down on Gurley after he was Jeff Fishered into 3ish yards per carry. Sean McVay has revitalized the stud RB, and he’s currently the top scorer at the position
Carson Wentz – Alex Smith is currently ahead of him, but we don’t think that lasts. The second year signal caller has had a monster sophomore season.
Antonio Brown – WR scoring has really tailed off with the emergence of a number of young runners, but Brown continues to rack up the catches, yards and scores.
Leveon Bell – The Killer B’s are both up to their usual tricks, tearing it up all season, and being among the league leaders at their respective positions.
Defensive Player of the Year
Bobby Wagner –
Zach Brown –
Reshad Jones –
DeMarcus Lawrence –
Rookie of the Year
Alvin Kamara – Kamara has been tearing it up since the Saints removed AP from the equation. A Week 14 injury could end up costing him the crown if those chasing him can finish strong.
Kareem Hunt – Hunt came out guns a blazing, but the Chiefs have been a little lost on offense until Week 13, where they had several big plays intead of sustained drives. That may open up some running room again for Hunt.
Leonard Fournette – Fournette has been a hammer almost all season, but has been dealing with a lingering ankle injury. A strong performance against the Seahawks could get him back into serious consideration.
Evan Engram – Engram has been the best non-RB (that has survived beyond Week 7) rookie this season. It’s been a down year for WR, with the top 3 WR picks all injured. Engram is basically just an oversized WR, as he doesn’t block for shit.
