It was a pretty rough first week of the EBFL playoffs as there were plenty of low scores, and a number of injuries that will potentially make a serious impact on who is hoisting the trophy in a few short weeks (mind you, if it’s Mo, can it still be considered hoisting if it’s only waist height for everyone else?). It was all chalk this week in the only games that really matter, as the #3 and #4 seeds both advanced with solid wins over their lower seeded counterparts. The Rexes dominated the Monday night match ups to pull away from the Bananas and the Bandits got a potentially season saving performance from LeVeon Bell to hold off the Boners. The Rexes now get an injury depleted Stache (I thought your players were supposed to stay healthy on Bye?), while the Bandits catch another divisional rival in their projected march to a title.
Igloo Bowl Bracket
#3 Rex in the City (195.07) def #6 San Juan Bananas (164.05)
This one was tight heading towards Monday night, with only a one point margin, and each squad having multiple players going. The Rexes did have the edge with an extra player, but the Bananas did nothing, and the Rexes tore it up, and marched into the 2nd round. There weren’t really any outstanding performances, but there were a pile of solid ones, especially on defense where 4 guys were over 14 points. The Bananas managed to get a few great games out of their players, but for the most part it was ugly with only 5 reaching double digits. That’s not a recipe for success when you’ve stripped the WDJFS’s of the world out of the mix.
Game MVP: Eric Weddle – The Rexes DB sealed the deal on Monday night, filling the stat sheet with sacks, picks and being in on 11 tackles.
Goat: Ben Roethlisberger – There were several candidates for this one, but Big Ben going for under 3 points is a back breaker, especially when his teammate went for almost 50. Tomlin’s fantasy team must have been facing Ben in the playoffs.
#4 Loose Bandits (196.22) def #5 Fear Boners (168.92)
The Boners first playoff appearance was a short one, thanks to a historic day from Leveon Bell. Had Bell put up his season average score (prior to this one anyway), the Boners would have come away winners, but are now left with thoughts of ‘next year’. There’s been word on the street the Boners are looking to hire Jeff Fisher after his Rams firing, so they can go 6-7 for the next 5 years and avoid all of this playoff heartbreak. The Boners didn’t get their usual DJ performance, and the depth just wasn’t there to make it happen against their division rival.
Game MVP: LeVeon Bell – An absolute monster performance, with close to 300 scrimmage yards and 3 scores.
Goat: Larry Fitzgerald – The wind and rain was rough on the Cards/Fins this weekend, and Fitz/Parker put up real duds when the Boners needed them most. Interesting note that Fitz was the goat in the Boners Week 14 loss last year as well…might not want to start him in the playoffs next year, K. That, or just get a Bye.
Extra Pick Bracket
#4 Endzone Dancers (163.20) def #1 Long Snappers (136.64)
The Dancers managed to pull off the upset over the awful Snappers this week, despite a below average score. The Snappers were awful, as their ‘Top 3’ WR corps they spouted off about early in the year were a massive disappointment yet again. Matt Ryan has been the only real highlight of the Snappers year, and they’ll have to work on developing a more balanced attack if they want to compete again in 2017. The win puts the Dancers in a real good spot in the quest for the extra draft pick, as they now catch WDJFS as the lowest remaining seed.
Game MVP: TY Hilton – Hilton appeared to be the only WR Luck had eyes for this weekend, and he paced the Dancers with 22 points.
Goat: Donte Moncrief – Moncrief aggravated a hamstring issue this week, albeit in the 4th quarter, and ended up with a donut.
#2 Deadly Nagintas (169.62) def #3 Greg Schiano is an Idiot (168.47)
The Nagintas ended up hanging on to defeat the Schiano’s, apparently not getting the 7.25 points on Monday night to put the Nagintas ‘out’. It wasn’t pretty on either side of this one, as the Nagintas put up a pair of zeroes, while the Idiots suffered through Zeke Elliot’s worst score of the season, and some shitty effort by Kelvin Benjamin. Remember when he was touted as WR1 material? Those were the days. At least the Idiots still have a shot at a Frittata Bowl title.
Game MVP: Jamie Collins – Nothing like moving over to the worst team in the league to boost a middle linebacker’s stats.
Goat: Kelvin Benjamin – When you get benched for lack of effort (don’t try to fool me, Ron Rivera), it doesn’t usually mean good things for your fantasy results.
