Week 8 was quite an interesting one as so many teams were so close, a team could have gone from 0 VP to 2 VP with a point and a half scoring correction. It turned out that the corrections only caused a 1 point swing. It was another big week for the Senor Crabs division, as all 4 teams picked up wins, and 3 of them were in the top 4 in scoring (like would have been all 4 again, if not for this week’s boneheaded coaching move). The top 2 teams in the Senor Frogs currently have more points than the entire Taco Corp. As a result, the standings have gotten a fair bit tighter as far as the final playoff spot goes, with the Bananas and Idiots now tied, with the Nagintas and Dancer each within 3 points.
Matchups
3-5 Deadly Nagintas (205.15) – 4-4 Greg Schiano is an Idiot (178.54)
The Bandits pick up all important ground on the Idiots with their victory this week, which puts them back in the playoff picture after a rough couple weeks prior. They picked up the win despite 2 defenders putting up 0 points and one offensive player less than 1. Dez Bryant’s return could make the Nagintas a player in the 2nd half, especially if he gets targetted as often as he did this week. The Idiots didn’t really have any terrible performances (at least ones that weren’t expected), but they didn’t get any great ones either. This was a match-up featuring the top 2 defensive players so far this season, and Kwon Alexander came out on top in the head to head.
7-1 Chalupa Batman (224.80) – 4-4 San Juan Bananas (190.18)
The Chalupas stayed hot, and squashed the Bananas this week, to extend their lead over the rest of the league (well except Smitty after the revision). The Chalupas put up the top score of the week, with solid performances all over the field, no real duds, and a big game from his boy, Mr. Aaron Rodgers. The Bananas find themselves in a tough spot, still having to face the rest of the Senor Crabs, with 3 teams within striking distance of the final playoff spot they’re currently holding. The defense was a little underwhelming as a whole this week, and cost the Bananas a 2nd scoring VP, which would have had them alone in 6th.
5-3 Fear Boners (219.24) – 1-7 What Does John Fox Say (170.38)
The Boners picked up max points this week as they continue their quest for their first EBFL playoff appearance. The computers have hated them all year, but they just keep doing what they need to to stay in the mix. They picked up great performances on both sides of the ball, and ended up 2nd in total scoring, with Jordan Howard being the highlight. WDJFS had one of their better weeks of the season but got thumped again. When Tyreek Hill is the current focal point of your offense, you’re probably in trouble. It’s all about the Frittata Bowl for Scotty.
5-3 Tom Selleck’s Moustache (191.26) – 4-4 Rex in the City (187.72)
The Stache took down this game featuring a pair of division leaders in narrow fashion, with the game coming right down to Monday Night Football. This one was all about the offense for the Stache with 6 of the 9 players putting up over 13 points. The win and the max scoring VP gives the Stache some solid breathing room at the top of the Yobagoya, and look like they’re cruising to their first division title. The Rexes put up a good fight but ultimately it was the donut from Sheldon Richardson that cost them a victory. Had they pulled it out, it would have been the Rexes cruising to a division title (which they may do anyway).
3-5 Long Snappers (187.88) – 2-6 Knuckle Ballers (187.42)
This match-up between a pair of potential Frittata contenders actually turned out to be a good one with Snappers not being comfortable until stat revisions were locked in this morning. The Snappers pulled it out despite 4 players putting up fewer than 3 points each. Matt Ryan continued his run at Offensive Player of the Year with another solid performance. If Sean Payton didn’t hate Mark Ingram, this game could have been very different, and the Snappers could be giving up on the season. Alas, that’s not the case, Ingram was benched after an early fumble, and the Ballers are pretty much screwed as far as the playoffs are concerned.
6-2 Loose Bandits (187.82) – 4-4 Endzone Dancers (177.65)
The Bandits picked up the win but may have cost themselves in the chase for the Senor Crabs pennant, with the whole Marshall issue. Amari Cooper and Jamison Crowder had big games to pace the Bandits as the WR position continues to be the key to their season. The addition of Jeremy Hill should help them down the stretch, but they may need to beef up the defense to get back to being the top contender. The Dancers just aren’t quite at the point where they can hang with the big boys week in and week out (probably the only time you’ll hear Mo being called a big boy), but look to be trending in the right direction. Telvin Smith continues to be a stud on the defensive side of the ball, while Carson Palmer looks to be rebounding for the offense.
Week 8 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Jordan Howard (Fear Boners) – Howard had a huge game leading both the Bears and the Boners to victories, with over 200 all-purpose yards and a TD .
Defensive Player of the Week
Kwon Alexander (Deadly Nagintas) – Alexander is probably the midseason favourite for defensive player of the year. 14 tackles this week, one for a loss and a pass defended gave him weekly honours.
Rookie of the Week
Jordan Howard (Fear Boners) – The rookie likely locked down the Bears starting spot for the rest of the season with this performance.
Goat of the Week
Mark Ingram (Knuckle Ballers) – An early game fumble put Ingram on the bench and those negative points cost the Ballers in an extremely narrow loss.
Pickup of the Week
JJ Nelson (Knuckle Ballers) – He wasn’t started, but put up almost 24 points this week. With all of the injuries to Cardinal receivers, he could play a big role down the stretch.
Bench Player of the Week
Derek Carr (Fear Boners) – Carr was the top overall score for the week, but the performance was wasted on the Boners bench.
Bonehead Coaching Move of the Week
Mo Loosemore (Loose Bandits) – Waiting until 4:04pm to attempt to make changes for a 4:05pm start and taking a penalty, as a result, earns Mo the award in Week 8.
