Ten weeks are now in the books, and we have our first team eliminated from play-off contention. The Fear Boners are now officially playing for 2016, as they find themselves 13 points back of the current 6 seed Bandits with only 12 VP available over the final 3 weeks. Everyone else still has somewhat of a shot, with the Stache having the longest of odds, being 7 victory points back.
The Taco Corp is still a complete gong show and won’t be settled until Week 13 at this rate, as division games where someone HAS to win will end up deciding who goes on to the play-offs, and who goes on to match up with the Boners in the Frittata Bowl. It wouldn’t surprise me if all 3 teams that don’t win the division end up there.
Note: The trade deadline for this season is Thursday night prior to kick-off.
Week 10 Matchups
7-3 Long Snappers (219.16) – 3-7 Knuckle Ballers (164.92)
The Snappers continue their surprising season, taking top score in their win over the Ballers. The Ballers just miss out on a scoring VP and remain locked in a tie atop the Taco Corp. Thankfully for them, even in the Special Olympics, someone has to win, and they have the best shot. A banged up Robert Quinn has to be a big concern down the stretch. If the play-offs started today, it would be a great match up between the Snappers and Nagintas to move on, and that’s likely how things play out down the stretch. The Snappers can potentially end WDJFS’s season with a win this week.
4-6 San Juan Bananas (167.13) – 6-4 Endzone Dancers (89.05)
The Dancers choked on the Bananas to blow a major opportunity to pick up ground in the Taco Corp division race. They put up 4 donuts and only had 3 players put up double digits in a performance that will rewrite the record books for futility. They remain in a tie for the division crown with the Ballers, with a week 13 match up looming. The Bananas keep their faint play-off hopes a live with the easy win, despite a pair of goose eggs of their own. The Rexes are next up for the Bananas with pretty much every week a must win.
6-4 Chalupa Batman (218.80) – 3-7 Tom Selleck’s Moustache (173.10)
The Chalupas continue to roll, this time trimming the Stache in a 45 point victory. With the win the Chalupas take control of the Senor Crabs division and control their own destiny. With 3 easy match ups they should take their first division crown and the #2 seed in the Igloo Bowl bracket. The Stache can’t seem to get a week where everyone performs and it’s why they’re going to finish under .500 again this year. Maybe Romo’s return can help them turn a corner and make a few other teams sweat down the stretch.
9-1 Greg Schiano is an Idiot (194.12) – 3-7 Fear Boners (168.72)
The Idiots put up their 2nd straight week under 200 points, but held off the Fear Boners in a solid victory. This one was looking close until a short period of time in the afternoon games, when Gronk and AP put up long touchdowns to put the Idiots out front to stay. Had the Boners promoted Langford from the Taxi Squad, the Idiots could have been looking at a loss, and the Idiots could have potentially avoided the Frittata Bowl. The Idiots are cruising to the #1 seed, and a Week 14 Bye. The Boners are cruising to the top seed in the consolation bracket. Look for them to be sellers leading up to the EBFL Trade Deadline.
6-4 Deadly Nagintas (171.00) – 3-7 What Does John Fox Say (159.61)
The Nagintas put up their worst score of the season, but come back on Monday Night to knock off WDJFS. The revision last week and low score this week likely costs the Nagintas a shot at the division banner and play-off Bye. The Stache aren’t the only team looking forward to Romo’s return, as the Nagintas hope it will get Dez Bryant going as we wind down the regular season. WDJFS is inexplicably still in the play-off race, being only 5 victory points out with 3 to play. Their LB killed them this week, as league average scores likely get them the win, and have them even closer to the division lead.
4-6 Rex in the City (202.92) – 6-4 Loose Bandits (135.06)
The Rexes were supposed to be the easy game left on the Bandits schedule, but things didn’t go according to plan as they put up their best score since Week 1 to take home the win. With the win the Rexes are still in the play-off hunt, sitting 4 back of the division leaders. A promising season is crashing down hard for the Bandits, now facing the 3 highest scoring teams in the league to close out the year. A losing record and play-off elimination is not out of the realm of possibility at this point. At least they have all those first round picks for next season to continue to build a juggernaut.
Week 10 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Antonio Brown (Chalupa Batman) – Thanks to an early Landry Jones injury, Brown gets the nod again this week with 10 grabs for 139, 2 TDs and a 2 point conversion.
Defensive Player of the Week
Bobby Wagner (Rex in the City) – Wagner was solid this week, being in on 11 tackles and recovering a fumble for his 2nd touchdown on the year, putting him on par with the illustrious Terrence Williams.
Rookie of the Week
Matt Jones (Long Snappers) – If 2014 was the year of the WR, 2015 is the year of the RB. Jones put up a solid performance in the Snappers victory.
Goat of the Week
Kenny Britt (What Does John Fox Say) – In his defence, Kenny Britt shouldn’t even be a starting option, but his 1.10 points hurt in an 11 point loss.
Pickup of the Week
Ndamukong Suh (Greg Schiano is an Idiot) – He wasn’t in the line up, but anyone that was played this week, was unimpressive, so the Idiots get the nod with the massive DL pick up.
Bench Player of the Week
Jeremy Langford (Fear Boners) – Does the Taxi Squad count as the bench? I don’t know, but Langford beasted this week, going for over 180 total yards, withTDs both on the ground and in the air.
Bonehead Coaching Move of the Week
Scott McKay (Endzone Dancers) – When you have 4 players take zeroes, that were all active, you win the award automatically. Scootie demolished the league record for lowest score, even despite the increase in defensive scoring.
