We’ve now reached the halfway point of the full 2015 fantasy season, and just like last year, we at the Commissioner’s Office are going to take a look at some of the scoring trends in the EBFL to this point. We’re going to examine some league wide numbers, as well as some team by team numbers. We’re going to take a look to see how the defensive scoring modifications have affected the overall scores, and see if we’re near where we had hoped we would end up when we made the changes.
Weekly Scoring
Here are everyone’s averages through 8 weeks of match ups:

I see several interesting pieces of information from this chart:
- Scoring is up 14 percent, while offensive scoring is down slightly overall.
- Defensive scoring is up almost 50% on average from last year, and is now 43% of the total scoring.
- When implementing the scoring changes, I was aiming for 40% scoring from defense, so we’re pretty bang on at this point.
- The Bananas are the only above average offensive team (4th) currently sitting out of the playoffs.
- The Rexes are the only above average defensive team (6th) currently sitting out of the playoffs.
- The Ballers have the worst defense in the league, but are in a playoff position thanks to the 3rd ranked offense.
- The Chalupas have made a remarkable turn around on the defensive side of the ball, sitting 3rd so far this year after the worst to this point last season.
- The 3 top defensive teams all reside in the Senor Crabs Division.
- Three of the 4 worst offenses come from the Taco Corp Division.
- The Boners are the only team that hasn’t put up 200 at least once this season.
- The Nagintas are incredibly consistent, having easily the highest low score to go along with the smallest margin between their high and low.
- The Idiots have improved immensely from last season, all the way across the board, with league highs in 5 of 8 categories.
- The Bandits turnaround would look much more remarkable if not compared to the Idiots.
- The Ballers and Rexes are the only teams scoring below their 2014 numbers, despite the bump in defensive scoring.
Positional Scoring
These teams are all above average for positional scoring. I put all non-playoff position teams in italics:
QB: Ballers, Bandits, Bananas, Idiots, Boners, Rexes, WDJFS
RB: Stache, Bandits, Bananas, Nagintas, Rexes
WR: Idiots, Dancers, Snappers, Chalupas, Stache
TE: Ballers, Snappers, Boners, WDJFS, Idiots, Chalupas, Nagintas
DL: Rexes, Idiots, Snappers, Nagintas, Boners, Bandits
LB: Nagintas, Bandits, Dancers, Bananas, Snappers, Chalupas, Idiots
DB: Nagintas, WDJFS, Chalupas, Snappers, Rexes
Semi-interesting Tidbits:
- The Idiots, Snappers and Nagintas show up 5 times each, and to no ones surprise, are all in playoff positions currently.
- The Stache, Ballers and Dancers each show up only twice in the list, with the Ballers the only one of those in a playoff position (someone has to from that division).
- Both the Snappers and Nagintas appear in all 3 defensive categories.
- The Ballers and Nagintas are the only team to lead the league at multiple positions, with the Ballers leading 2 on offense, and the Nagintas leading 2 on defense.
- Quarterback appears to have the smallest correlation with overall success, as 4 of the 7 above average teams aren’t looking like playoff competitors.
- The Rexes somehow appear in the list 4 times, despite their measly 6 VP so far this season. Looking a little closer though, they barely make the cut everywhere but on the DL.
- The Idiots are the only team to appear in more than 2 offensive categories, only missing out on RB.
Remember, these numbers are for total points at the positions, not per player or anything, so numbers can be skewed somewhat by the formations rolled out by the teams each week. For example, Smitty and Mo roll 4 RB on a regular basis, so they’re miles ahead in that category.
Well that’s it for this edition! Hope you’ve found this at least semi-informative. The next Commish Report will likely be a playoff preview coming in Week 13. Good luck to everyone down the stretch!
