This week was a pretty wild one in both the NFL and the EBFL as several teams that were a heaping pile of horse crap in 2014 came up with Week 2 victories. The top score of the week sat on the bench, the second highest defender isn’t even rostered, and a pair of weekly defensive records fell. Also, for those keeping score at home, Terrence Williams found the endzone, so he’s now worth 2 first round picks! Oh wait, he’ll have Brandon Weeden throwing him the ball for the foreseeable future? Ok, maybe a 3rd will do.
Your 2014 Frittata Bowl contestants are a combined 7-1. Let that sink in for a second.
Matchups
2-0 Long Snappers (217.17) – 1-1 Chalupa Batman (196.56)
The Snappers are the surprise team of 2015, already within one game of their win total from last year, with 11 games to go. The Snappers were paced by their receiving corps which averaged well over 20 points. They should be able to knock off the Boners next week, and then the schedule gets tougher. The Chalupas drop a tough one to relinquish their spot at the top of the Senor Crabs division. The team wasn’t bad overall this week, but a handful of serious duds cost them the victory, and potentially an extra VP.
2-0 Greg Schiano is an Idiot (205.09) – 0-2 What Does John Fox Say (164.81)
The Idiots roll to another big win, this time at the hands of WDJFS. They have already matched their win total from an injury plagued 2014, and still look like the team to beat this year. Several underwhelming performances doomed WDJFS to their second straight defeat to open the season. Their pair of Pro Bowl defensive tackles combined for 3 points, and Dwayne Allen put up a donut. You’re not going to hang with the big boys with games like that.
1-1 San Juan Bananas (241.04) – 0-2 Fear Boners (175.46)
The Bananas roll to 2-0 behind some solid performances at WR, where their 4 starters combined for over 90 points. The LB corps were stellar as well, with only Bowman having a sub par outing. The Boners WR were no slouches either, also averaging over 20 points. Unfortunately there wasn’t much else to get excited about beyond Cam Newton, and the Boners continue their expected path to the Frittata Bowl.
1-1 Deadly Nagintas (204.91) – 1-1 Endzone Dancers(159.55)
Despite getting nothing from stud WR Mike Evans, the Nagintas rolled behind record breaking defensive performances, from both Ryan Shazier, and the entire unit. Naginta skill players continue to drop like flies as they potentially lost 2 QB to add to Dez Bryant. On a day when most teams WR carried the load, Scooties were a huge letdown, and kept them from having a shot in this one. The good news for the Dancers: 3 more matchups against the Ballers and WDJFS.
2-0 Rex in the City (158.42) – 0-2 Tom Selleck’s Moustache (142.55)
The Rexes pulled out another victory, this time against the Stache who have dug themselves into a huge hole in their quest for a playoff position. The Rexes were pretty lucky to escape with the win considering the whopping 13 points scored by his WR and the less than a half a point by Blount. About the only bright spot for the Stache is Odell Beckham who continues to put up serious numbers in his sophomore campaign. They better figure things out in a hurry, because it only gets tougher, especially in that division.
2-0 Loose Bandits (225.10) – 0-2 Knuckle Ballers (170.53)
The Bandits join the Snappers and Idiots as 2014 Frittata Bowl participants to start 2015 with back to back wins. The Bandits didn’t have any outstanding performances, but got several good ones to pace them to victory over the Ballers. They’re going to be a dangerous team with LeVeon Bell back in the mix. The Ballers take the first $5 fine for an illegal line up and the potential draft hit to go with it. Brady was great for them, putting up record numbers against Buffalo, but the rest of the squad was pretty underwhelming.
Week 2 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Larry Fitzgerald (Fear Boners) – Fitz put up 8 grabs for 112 and found the end zone 3 times on Sunday. Carson Palmer loves him some Larry Fitzgerald.
Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Shazier (Deadly Nagintas) – Shazier did a little bit of everything this weekend, with a sack, 3 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery to go along with 11 tackles and 4 assists. Shazier may have the Nagintas saying “Luke who?” if he keeps this up.
Rookie of the Week
Amari Cooper (Loose Bandits) – The Bandits keep the award in house again, this time with Cooper getting the nod. He broke out to the tune of 109 yards and his first career TD in the Raider upset.
Goat of the Week
Jimmy Graham (Chalupa Batman) – Does he even have a pulse? Graham looked terrible in the Seahawks/Chalupas losses this weekend. He wasn’t the only one costing CB a win, but he was a huge factor.
Pickup of the Week
Malcolm Jenkins (Loose Bandits) – The DB put up almost 20 points in the Bandits victory and was all over the field on Sunday afternoon.
Bench Player of the Week
Travis Benjamin (Rex in the City) – Benjamin was an absolute monster in Week 2, with 2 TD catches, a return TD and over 100 yards both receiving and in the return game.
Bonehead Coaching Move of the Week
Rob Conrod (Knuckle Ballers) – Congrats on earning the first illegal line up fine of 2015. At least you made plenty at the casino in Niagara to cover it.
