It has been a fantastic first season in the Eskimo Brothers Football League. From the time we were set up on the site, right up until the final week, there was plenty of action, and some exciting finishes. The trades started almost immediately with start up draft picks changing hands, and went right until the deadline. Now that we’ve reached the end of the season, I’m sure most are happy with how some turned out, but are disappointed with others. Either way, most people we’re trying to really make things happen with their squads.
There were definitely two tiers of teams as we reached the halfway point of the season, as the playoff teams were all in position at Week 6, and only the seeding/order changed. I wouldn’t be surprised if that were to change in 2015 as a few of the playoff teams see their players get another year older, and the young players on some of the non-playoff teams take another step forward. I would suspect we’ll see some tighter races next season, and more match ups will matter as we get deeper into the season.
Now we get into the best part of a Dynasty League: The Off-Season. We’ll be back with the first Commish Report of the 2015 season early in the new year with a look at each team’s needs as we head towards free agency and the rookie draft.
Highlights/Lowlights
This season ended up being a Tale of Two Bryce’s as Commish (Mike) ended up as our first league champion, while brother Mark gets the nod as the league’s first Frittata.
Having co-GM’s seemed to work well for the Chalupa’s, but much less so for the Snappers.
WDJFS coming out of nowhere in the Wildcard Round to put up the high score on the season. They didn’t even have a top 20 score prior to that week and only 2 in the top 50 scores of the entire regular season.
The teams that held the first 4 picks in the start-up draft missing the playoffs.
A total of 90 trades from start-up until the deadline.
Knuckle Ballers giving up a 1st and a 2nd to acquire Tom Brady, who they used only once all season (one of this worst games).
Long Snappers trading away the pick that would become Sammy Watkins, then turning around and trading to get Watkins.
The Tavon Austin nonsense.
Deadly Nagintas start the season 6-0.
Knuckle Ballers missing the division title by 1.6 points in Week 13.
Year End Awards
Offensive Player of the Year
DeMarco Murray (Rex in the City) – In an incredibly close vote that came down to the final ballot, Murray walks away with the award, beating out Le’Veon Bell by only 2 points. Both players received 4 first place votes (Luck and Brown split the other 4), but the difference was Bell being left off of 2 ballots and Murray only 1. It was a great season for Murray, as he and Forte carried the Rexes to the first EBFL title, and he should easily walk away with the rushing title, while breaking the Cowboys record.
Defensive Player of the Year
JJ Watt (San Juan Bananas) – This one was a no brainer, as Watt not only outscored the next highest defender by over 31 points, he bested the next best lineman by over 81. When you consider he scored 186.98 in total, that’s just impressive. You can ignore his offensive output, and he’s still the top scoring defender. He took 11 of 12 1st place votes, which is just inexplicable. Mo must have been into the special cookies before he sent in his votes. DeAndre Levy garnered the only other 1st place vote.
Rookie of the Year
Odell Beckham Jr (Tom Selleck’s Moustache) – In another vote that was almost unanimous, Beckham ran away with the award with 11 of 12 first place votes. Beckham wasn’t even on the radar at the mid-point of the season, as he was just working his way back from injury. He was absolutely dominant once he was in the line up, putting up the top average score, and also being the #2 WR from Week 5 on. Had he been in the line up from Week 1, he could have been on the Offensive Player of the Year ballot. Kelvin Benjamin received the only other 1st place vote in a 4th place finish.
