The inaugural Igloo Bowl is in the books, and Rex in the City is the first champion of EBFL history. With a thorough drubbing of the Deadly Nagintas, the Rexes close out the season with 4 straight wins, and get revenge for the Week 11 loss to their championship game opponent. The Rexes had arguably the 2 best running backs in the game this season in Murray and Forte, and rounded out the rest of the team with a top 5 quarterback, a top 5 wide out and a top 5 (in PPG at least) tight end. Their defense was second, only to the Nagintas. All in all, a well rounded team, deserving of a championship. Congrats to the Rexes on being the best this year.
Igloo Bowl Bracket
#2 Rex in the City (190.46) def #1 Deadly Nagintas (136.92)
As far as championship games go, this one had all of the drama of Super Bowl XLVIII. The Rexes got out to an early lead, and never looked back as the Nagintas could barely muster any offense. The Rexes offense on the other hand, put up several solid numbers in the rout. They were a well balanced team all season, and their stars performed like stars. If the Nagintas can take any solace in the loss, it is the fact that they are a much younger team than the Rexes, and may still be on their way up.
Game MVP: Jordy Nelson – On an off day for Aaron Rodgers, Nelson still got his with over 20 points in the victory.
Playoff MVP: Mike Wallace – A pair of big playoff performances were key to earning the Rexes the title.
Goat: Drew Brees – In what was supposed to be a prime match up, Brees was a huge disappointment with 2 turnovers in the loss.
Extra Pick Bracket
#4 Loose Bandits (167.42) def #2 Fear Boners (126.50)
In the battle for an extra pick between rounds 2 and 3, the Bandits knocked off their division rival to boost their total to 10 picks over the 5 round draft, including 5 in the first 25 picks. Both teams have some nice young pieces to build on for the future. How they approach the off-season will go a long way in determining how quickly they’ll be competitive.
Game MVP: Ryan Tannehill – The Dolphins pivot closed out the season with a huge performance against the Vikes.
Goat: Calais Campbell – Plenty of options, but the doughnut earns Campbell the nod.
Frittata Bowl Standings
- Long Snappers – 428.80 (126.16/154.24/148.40)
- Endzone Dancers – 524.04 (170.28/144.60/209.16)
- Greg Schiano is an Idiot – 541.58 (166.48/171.70/203.40)
- Loose Bandits – 567.88 (213.70/160.32/193.86)
The Snappers are our first recipient of the Frittata Award. This team looked decent on paper heading into the season, and have somehow bungled their way to being the worst team in the league. They have at least acquired some young talent, and draft picks, but it likely takes a couple seasons before they’re in the playoff mix again. At least they have their punishment to look forward to!
Well that’s pretty much it for the 2014 season. We still have the player of the year voting, and a wrap up Commish Report, then onto the 2015 season. I hope this first season has been an enjoyable one for everyone, and it sounds like everyone is back for year 2. I’m looking forward to the coming off-season, as that’s the real fun in a dynasty league. That is, unless you’re Smitty and refuse to even talk trade.
