Week 7 marked the halfway point of the regular season and featured another round of division match ups, including a pair of tilts between the top two teams in both the Senor Crabs and Taco Corp divisions. We lost our final unbeaten team this week, as the Nagintas laid an egg, and watched their division lead shrink to 3 points. The Boners are now coming on strong and could end up threatening for a playoff position after starting 0-4. They’d probably the favourite in the Yobagoya division at this point. The Taco Corp division is going to be a fun race to watch down the stretch, with the 3 contenders all currently within 3 points. It should make for a nice little round robin between the 3 over the final 5 weeks.
Matchups
5-2 Rex in the City (206.62) – 5-2 Knuckle Ballers (190.04)
The Rexes came out on top of this huge Taco Corp divisional matchup, taking down the Ballers, who were the 2nd highest scoring team this week. When these 2 teams are rolling, they’re tough to beat, and I think we may get to see 2 more head to head matchups before the season is over. That Week 13 rematch may very well decide who’s a 1 seed, and who drops all the way down to the 4 seed. The Rexes have now been the top scoring team 3 times.
4-3 San Juan Bananas (154.88) – 1-6 Greg Schiano is an Idiot (145.80)
The Bananas did just enough to win this week, buoyed by the solid outings by their running backs. They caught the Idiots at a good time, as Megatron was out, and Doug Martin was on bye. It’s tough to win in this league without your top players, and this week was no different. Kelvin Benjamin continues his solid rookie season, and is the lone bright spot on a tough first half for the Idiots. I’m sure they’re quite happy they didn’t end up dealing away their first round pick at this point, as it’s looking like it could involve a marquee player.
6-1 Chalupa Batman (166.46) – 6-1 Deadly Nagintas (145.20)
The Chalupas ended the Nagintas winning streak at 6 games, and in the process climbed back into the race for the division title. A monster 2nd half from Russell Wilson salvaged what was looking like a rough week, but unfortunately they missed out on that 2nd scoring VP and now sit 3 points off the pace. The Nagintas did not look anything like the top team in the league this week, and there was plenty of blame to go around in this loss. Cutler was terrible, with a multi turnover game, and the running backs didn’t put together much of anything. The Nagintas will have to turn it around quickly if they want to stick around the EBFL’s elite.
6-1 What Does John Fox Say? (162.64) – 1-6 Endzone Dancers (114.52)
WDJFS rode the ground and pound past the Dancers in Week 8 to stay in the mix at the top of the Taco Corp Division. Chris Ivory had easily his best game of the season to lead the squad to an important victory. Catching the Rexes on Green Bay’s Bye week should help get them closer to the division crown. The Dancers are neck and neck with the Bandits for the league basement and the inside track on the Sacko, after scoring the 2nd fewest points in the league this year. There’s been a lot of disappointment from players Scootie was counting on for big things this season.
3-4 Long Snappers (187.56) – 1-6 Tom Selleck’s Moustache (154.06)
The Snappers get within a game of .500 with huge performances from Shane Vereen and Sammy Watkins. The latter put up the highest score so far this season for a rookie, which likely puts him neck and neck with Kelvin Benjamin in the Rookie of the Year race. The Snappers now only sit 2 points back of the Bananas, but they have games against the Rexes and Ballers around a head to head with their division rival. Another respectable performance from the Stache, but as usual, not enough to get the win, and now they are pretty much playing for 2015. They are sitting at 6 losses, and the Ballers coming up in Week 8. The fat lady has her vocal cords warmed up.
3-4 Fear Boners (175.72) – 1-6 Loose Bandits (130.86)
The Boners unloaded all over the Bandits, for their 3rd straight win, as well as their 3rd straight top 4 score, and now have a chance to get to .500 in Week 8. They got the win with several solid, but unspectacular games across the board, having 10 players put up double digits, without any go over 20. Other than LeVeon Bell, not much went well for the Bandits as they had several players under 5 points, including a couple zeroes. The 2015 draft can’t get here fast enough for Mo.
Week 7 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Russell Wilson (Chalupa Batman) – Wilson says ‘Percy Who?’ on his way to a monster second half to earn the Chalupas a huge divisional win.
Defensive Player of the Week
Everson Griffen (Deadly Nagintas) – Griffen spent the afternoon in Kyle Orton’s back pocket, picking up 3 sacks and a forced fumble on the day.
Rookie of the Week
Sammy Watkins (Long Snappers) – The Snappers have a solid grip on this award, taking it for the 3rd week in a row, and 5th in total. Sammy was a beast in a big Snappers win.
Goat of the Week
Cameron Jordan (Greg Schiano is an Idiot) – Cameron Jordan outscored Jimmy Graham this week. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean much as Jimmy Graham put up a donut. The Idiots likely get a win and keep their faint playoff hopes alive with a reasonable game here.
Pickup of the Week
N/A – There wasn’t really much for contributions from pick ups this week. We will mention there’s a new high for a blind bid with the Rexes pick up of Brandon Bolden.
Bench Player of the Week
Gavin Escobar (Deadly Nagintas) – In a ‘where the hell did that come from’ performance, Escobar put up 2 TD’s and 65 yards, in likely his only double digit score this season. How long before the Jason Witten owner goes looking for his replacement?
Bonehead Coaching Move of the Week
N/A – There weren’t many questionable decisions this week, although I was surprised to see Smitty bench Beckham with Cruz out, but hard to argue him over the opportunity of his other WR.
