Week 6 is now in the books, and we’re down to only 1 undefeated team remaining, and all teams now have at least one win under their belts. The Deadly Nagintas knocked off What Does John Fox Say in the game of the week, to bump their season long winning streak to 6, and drop WDJFS all the way down to the 6th seed (were the playoffs to start today). The Boners are no longer the laughing stock of the league, and now have their own modest winning streak, with the last place Bandits up next. Maybe the mass sell off won’t take place for another 2-3 weeks now, or possibly not at all, as they could work their way back into playoff contention. Speaking of deals, I’m sure everyone has noticed San Juan has returned from Jamaica as the crappy trade offers have flown fast and furious the past few days.
Week 7 is the last of the first round of division match ups with a couple big ones going down between the top teams in both the Senor Crabs and Taco Corp divisions, as well as a must win on both sides of the Stache/Snappers tilt. The loser of that one can all but kiss their playoff hopes goodbye.
Matchups
4-2 Rex in the City (197.16) – 3-3 San Juan Bananas (156.78)
San Juan drops another matchup to fall to .500, and are lucky to still hold on to the division lead. Thankfully for them the rest of the division aren’t big on winning, and rock a combined 4-14 record. If the Bananas can’t knock off the Idiots next week, there could be quite a playoff race. The Rexes stay hot, winning their 3rd straight putting up close to 200 points, to be the first 2 time winner of the weekly high score award.
5-1 Knuckle Ballers (183.08) – 1-5 Greg Schiano is an Idiot (155.92)
Another big week for the Manning/Thomas combo equals another big win for the Ballers. They continue to establish themselves as the team to beat in the EBFL, and now sit alone atop the Taco Corp division. The Idiots had a decent week from their offense, but their defense didn’t keep pace, and the team ends up with their 5th loss on the season. They made a big trade this week to solidify their WR corps, but I don’t know that they have enough season left to get it turned around and into the playoffs.
6-0 Deadly Nagintas (177.44) – 5-1 What Does John Fox Say? (140.74)
The Nagintas knock off WDJFS to become the sole undefeated team in the league. The Nagintas Gio Bernard and Jon Cyprien had big days to overcome the huge lead WDJFS established on Thursday night. A huge division matchup looms with the Chalupas. WDJFS picks up their first loss and takes a nose dive in the standings. From the division lead, #2 seed all the way down to the #6 seed. All of those low winning scores will start to catch up with them if they can’t roll through the rest of their division games.
5-1 Chalupa Batman (160.90) – 1-5 Endzone Dancers (132.54)
The Chalupas got a huge day from Andre Holmes to knock off the Dancers and get back in the win column. A win next week against the undefeated Nagintas will put them right in the thick of the race for the 2nd half of the season. A loss, likely has them playing for wild card position. The Dancers season is likely already over, with 5 losses already, and 4 more matchups with the 3 teams in their division. There’s no way they win 3 of those games, and the other 4 as well. Scott has shot himself in the foot too many times this season.
1-5 Tom Selleck’s Moustache (169.18) – 1-5 Loose Bandits (154.14)
Other than Odell Beckham the Stache offense all put up double digit games to finally get the squad a W, despite another poor performance on the defensive side of the ball. It was nice to see McCoy bounce back after being the goat in week 5. It’s sad that despite only one win, the team isn’t far out of the lead in the Yobagoya division. The Bandits continue to roll towards the top pick in the draft, and a potentially dominant team in 2016.
2-4 Fear Boners (185.06) – 2-4 Long Snappers (161.24)
The Boners go back to back, taking down the Snappers and picked up some more VP to potentially get themselves back into playoff contention. The Boners have some real decisions to make regarding their season, which could change the fortunes of a number of teams in the league. Despite a monster first half performance by Joe Flacco and a big day out of Branden Oliver, the Snappers drop another game, and make things a lot tougher on themselves going forward. A big match up with the Stache looms.
Week 6 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Cam Newton (Fear Boners) – Newton put up a huge week, in his first start for the Boners. Filling in admirably for Brees, Newton led the squad to their second straight win. It looks like he got his feet back under him.
Defensive Player of the Week
JJ Watt (San Juan Bananas) – Watt went off on Indy this week, breaking the record for points by a defensive lineman in the process. Watt filled the stat sheet with several tackles, sacks, passes defended and even found the endzone.
Rookie of the Week
Branden Oliver (Long Snappers) – The Snappers recent pick up put up over 20 points, going for 101 and a TD against the Raiders. Unfortunately it was not enough to get the Snappers in the win column.
Goat of the Week
Steven Ridley & Shane Vereen (Long Snappers) – The pair combined for a total of 4.6 points to cost the Snappers a shot at getting to .500. The worst part is how confident Marky was that the pair were going to carry them to the playoffs.
Pickup of the Week
Jerry Hughes (Long Snappers) – Hughes was solid for the Snappers after being re-acquired this week. He put up 10 numbers at the position.
Bench Player of the Week
Tom Brady (Knuckle Ballers) – While Brady flopped in his lone start for the Ballers, he’s been lights out while on their bench the past 2 weeks. He put up over 30 points to be a top 5 scorer for the week.
Bonehead Coaching Move of the Week
Scott McKay (Endzone Dancers) – It’s starting to feel like piling on, giving Scootie the award for the 3rd time in 6 weeks, but playing an inactive AJ Green, and this fixation on Larry Donnell has cost the team again this week.
