Week 4 was relatively anti-climactic, with not a single match up being within 10 points when all was said and done. One team found the win column for the first time, and we lost one of the 4 that went into the week without a loss. The story of the week has to be how ineffective the Knuckle Ballers were without Peyton Manning steering the ship. The talk earlier in the week was how the Ballers attempted to plug the hole left by the Denver pivot. They sent what should be a late first and 2nd to the Long Snappers for Tom Brady, a 3rd and a 5th. At this point, it’s looking like all they’re getting is a 3rd and a 5th. There is some good news for the Ballers, as their Broncos studs are through both Seattle and the Bye, and should wreak havoc on the rest of the league from here on out.
The first issue of the Commish Report should be up later this week.
Matchups
1-3 Long Snappers (180.80) – 1-3 Greg Schiano is an idiot (168.38)
A big day for the Bryce family as Marky pulls off his first win of the season, and Commish goes off for 200+. The Snappers may have (at least temporarily) saved their season with this one, as I have a feeling a large sell off was coming if they didn’t win. The Idiots lose their 3rd straight after kicking off their season with a win. Things aren’t going well in Schianoville, but at least the Bucs looked respectable for one week. Calvin Johnson was a big disappointment this week, which may have saved that Gronk garbage time TD from crushing Mark’s will to live.
3-1 San Juan Bananas (183.66) – 0-4 Tom Selleck’s Moustache (151.02)
While one snake-bitten team turned things around, another loses yet again. Smitty falls to a top 3 scoring team yet again this week, to run his losing streak to 4 games. This is definitely not #RyanSmithGood, and you have to think another loss in the next couple games has the Stache looking to 2015 already. The Bananas get back in the win column, putting up the 2nd highest score of the week. Jamaal Charles appears to be his old self again, which should help the Bananas run away with the Yobagoya! Division.
4-0 What Does John Fox Say? (175.34) – 3-1 Knuckle Ballers (119.08)
This one didn’t really live up to the hype as John Fox took down the Ballers in this match up between the unbeaten division rivals. I’m not going to say it was much of a surprise as the Ballers were missing a good portion of their offense with the Denver Bye week. I have a feeling the 2nd time these 2 go head to head, we’ll see a much better contest. WDJFS leap frogs the Ballers for first place in the division with the win.
2-2 Rex in the City (217.58) – 1-3 Endzone Dancers (166.38)
That Aaron Rodgers/Jordy Nelson combo was lethal for the Rexes, as they dummied the Dancers, while racking up the most points in the league for Week 4. The big win should put the other top teams in the division on notice that they won’t go quietly. The Dancers put up reasonable numbers again this week, but come away with their 3rd defeat. They have a decent squad, but may end up being the victims of a brutal division.
4-0 Deadly Nagintas (158.76) – 0-4 Fear Boners (124.48)
The Nagintas made the Monday night comeback to remain undefeated, despite having 2 of their top players on Bye. With the extra VP, the Nagintas now sit at the top of the standings in the EBFL. I don’t think anyone saw that coming to start the season, and it probably won’t last long. There’s not much positive to say about the Boners season to this point. They’ve been a bottom 4 scoring team each week, and are likely looking to start the fire sale before long. There are a bunch of nice pieces there in Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Patrick Willis and Arian Foster that could push a team over the top. Start piling up your prospects and picks folks!
4-0 Chalupa Batman (161.14) – 1-3 Loose Bandits (130.54)
The Chalupas keep pace with the Nagintas, handing the Bandits their 3rd loss of the season. Their receiving corps just keeps getting it done, which is big when your 3 RB combine for less than 10 points. Will the Chalupas go out and get that RB help to take a run at the division crown? There wasn’t much for the Bandits to be excited about this week, as several young guys came crashing back down to earth, and they only had one double digit performance from their defense. They can’t be happy that Teddy Bridgewater had a big game, but it was to pretty much the only Vikes WR they don’t own. The good news is, some of their Taxi Squad members are starting to contribute.
Week 4 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Jamaal Charles (San Juan Bananas) – I had Matt Asiata queued up for this until Charles went off on the Pats for his own 3 TD’s and over 100 yards. This was the type of game San Juan was looking for when they nabbed him.
Defensive Player of the Week
Malcolm Jenkins (Long Snappers) – Since Husain Abdullah and his 15 yard penalties for a quick hat tip to Allah aren’t owned (talk about your double standards, eh Tebow), the nod goes to Malcolm Jenkins who also found the endzone this weekend.
Rookie of the Week
CJ Mosley (Long Snappers) – The only real notable offensive performance by a rookie was Teddy Ballgame, and he was on the bench, so we’ll give the nod to Mosley, whose 12 points was a top 10 defensive score for the week, and helped get the Long Snappers into the win column.
Goat of the Week
Tom Brady (Knuckle Ballers) – I don’t think this was what Rob was hoping for when he made that deal. He didn’t cost the team the week, but he did cost his team 2 high picks for this dud. Megatron was a close 2nd in the Idiots loss.
Pickup of the Week
Eddie Royal (Chalupa Batman) – Fun fact: The Chalupas didn’t even have the high bid on Royal this week. Unfortunately for the Ballers, they missed out on a monster performance from the smallish WR, due to not understanding how waivers are processed. I suggest everyone go to the help files and learn the blind bid system inside out, so this doesn’t happen to you.
Bench Player of the Week
Eli Manning (Rex in the City) – Maybe he’s not completely terrible after all. Although it’s more likely that the Redskins defense just IS that terrible. Looking forward to the 5 points he puts up the week Commish has Rodgers on bye.
Bonehead Coaching Move of the Week
With 6 teams on Bye, and not really any close games, I don’t really think anyone is deserving this week. There were a handful of bench players scoring well, but you can’t fault the coaches for playing who they did.
