Week 2 is in the books, barring any scoring revisions, and things are shaping up nicely for a pair of teams at the top of the standings. San Juan Bananas and the Knuckle Ballers are clearly the class of the league, with a max 8 VP each. San Juan didn’t escape the week unscathed though, losing top 5 pick, Jamaal Charles, for an undetermined amount of time. Will he make a deal with his abundance of picks to plug the hole or will this be a good time for the rest of the Yobagoya! division to play catch up?
At the other end of the spectrum, we have the Fear Boners and Loose Bandits, each still trying to earn that first point. The two teams are heading in very different directions, Mo with his youth, and KKK with a bunch of guys that are Stockmann’s age. Things aren’t getting any better for the Boners, as AP is in a pile of hot water for his discipline methods, and he’s already lost 2 of his other geriatric RBs. If things don’t improve in a hurry, this team could be blown up by mid-season.
Matchups
2-0 Deadly Nagintas (197.04) – 0-2 Tom Selleck’s Moustache (160.62)
It’s been a rough start for the Stache as they’re 4th overall in scoring, but sit 0-2. Thankfully for them, this league seeds playoffs by Victory Points, so they’re still in the thick of things, and rattling off a few wins will put them right back in the mix. The Nagintas take the Week 2 high score award, while pulling off the upset (I think Smitty was favoured by 20+). Adding Knile Davis to the starting line up will be huge over the next few weeks.
2-0 Chalupa Batman (161.30) – 0-2 Long Snappers (157.00)
The Snappers, like the Stache, saw themselves as serious contenders in this inaugural season, and they too find themselves behind the 8 ball, starting out 0-2, and sitting 4th in the division and 9th overall. They have to feel good about Sammy Watkins after his first career 20pt game. The Chalupas were clearly nervous down the stretch Monday night, as the league office received numerous expletive laden texts from their GM. While they are currently the lowest of the 2 win teams, the Chalupas are in what’s shaping up to be the weakest division, which should help their playoff chances.
2-0 San Juan Bananas (168.72) – 0-2 Endzone Dancers (144.00)
While it wasn’t a 225, the Bananas have to be happy with another solid week, which keeps them atop the EBFL standings. They did lose 5 or 6 solid starters to injury though, including top pick, Jamaal Charles, so we’ll see if that lasts. They have built up a nice reserve of picks, so maybe they’ll turn some of those into players to keep them afloat until their studs return. The Dancers can’t be happy with their start, going to 0-2 and then losing star wideout AJ Green for likely a couple more weeks. The rest of the team will have to step up soon, or they could be looking to ’15 early.
2-0 What Does John Fox Say? (136.54) – 1-1 Greg Schiano is an idiot (110.06)
John Fox has taken advantage of their soft schedule to start the year, doing enough to get to 2-0. They’ve scored the fewest points of the unbeatens, but that’s alright when you have the lowest points against in the league. Their next 4 games are against other 2-0 teams, so we’ll see what this team is made of over that stretch. The Idiots put up a real stinker (new record low) this week to fall to 0-1. They almost put up the infamous ‘Bench Outscore’, which is all the more impressive in the EBFL as we have fewer bench spots than starting spots. Will they bounce back against the winless Dancers in Week 3?
2-0 Knuckle Ballers (192.24) – 0-2 Loose Bandits (129.34)
The Ballers are on a tear to start the season, putting up the 2nd highest points each week. Week 3 sees team leader Peyton Manning playing in Seattle, and if goes anything like the last Super Bowl, it could be a long day for the Ballers. The Bandits just can’t hang with the top teams in the EBFL and it showed this week. They’re ok with it though, as 2014 is a learning/building year for them. We’re pretty sure they’ve spent more time scouting college games than setting line ups.
1-1 Rex in the City (161.64) – 0-2 Fear Boners (141.18)
Definitely not the start the Boners were looking for. Thankfully for them, Drew Brees gets to go home this week, where he’s normally lights out. While the Week 3 matchup may be tough, look for the Boners to pull out a win, and get their season back on track…assuming they can find a running back that isn’t suspended or sidelined by injury. The Rex have the horses to be a playoff squad, with some of the best backs in the league and the Rodgers/Nelson combo in Green Bay. They’re likely going to need more out of their defense to win a title though. Being such a homer may be their downfall.
Week 2 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Jordy Nelson (Rex in the City) – 209 yards made Jordy the top overall offensive scorer this week, leading the Rex to a solid win. Almost 10 points ahead of the 3rd highest scoring WR. Has to be bittersweet for the GM of the Rex as it was against his team.
Defensive Player of the Week
Chandler Jones (Deadly Nagintas) – Jones made the Vikes his bitch this weekend, racking up 2 sacks, an additional tackle for a loss and a touchdown. He was the 15th highest score in the league overall.
Rookie of the Week
Sammy Watkins (Long Snappers) – Watkins showed why the Bills traded up to get him (and Marky traded for him) with his first 100 yard game to go along with his first career touchdown.
Goat of the Week
Marques Colston (Long Snappers) – Losing by under 3 points hurts at the best of times. Doing it while your WR1 puts up a donut is downright painful.
Pickup of the Week
Marcedes Lewis (Deadly Nagintas) – While Forsett was the priciest acquisition, Lewis was the most valuable, locking down the TE spot for the Nagintas big week.
Bench Player of the Week
Knile Davis (Deadly Nagintas) – Davis was 6th overall in scoring on the week, while riding the pine for the Nagintas. He may be a mainstay in the line up for a few weeks with the Charles injury though.
Bonehead Coaching Move of the Week
Scott McKay (Endzone Dancers) – You have a hall of fame TE on your roster, and you leave him on the bench for waiver fodder? Scootie was rewarded with the 2nd most points in the league this week. With Gates in the line up, the Dancers would have had the Bananas sweating it out on Monday night.
